Comfortable but a little quirky - Rating 4/5

This is a comfortable and reasonably priced hotel. Our room (room 12) had an awkward step up into the bathroom and the decor was rather dark. Nevertheless, a comfortable and quiet couple of nights. Service in the dining room was excellent and professional. Food on the plate did not quite live up to its price and menu description. As a hotel rating I would give it two stars but my experience was better than that

A warm and friendly welcome. Our motel style room was OK but compact and a bit dated :it had nice clean bedding and served us well enough for an quick overnight visit but not appealing for a longer stay. Breakfast was nice, and the owner took time to tell us about the wonderful historic building.

Booked for a wedding being held in Godstone. Excellent value for many, staying in a unique chalet style room which was comfortable and value for money @ £75 per room per night including breakfast. The only negative, is that the breakfast is just continental, with no hot food option. Did ask if we could pay extra, but not an option...was needed after a long wedding!!Overall, good hotel and value for money.

Superb restaurant with value bedrooms & parking - Rating 5/5

The Coach-House is an excellent restaurant. We enjoyed the delicious seafood Godstone - an elegantly presented slightly spicy dish with a generous portion of large prawns ans scallops worthy of an Michelin starred kitchen but in cosy surroundings and reasonably priced. What a luxury to be able to park easily and stay over in a comfortable room and enjoy fresh croissants in the morning. All of this cost half the price of my usual basic hotel stay in london with not even a glass of water included! What a gem thank you

As one of the only places you can stay in and around Godstone, we weren't spoiled for choice. However, we found the Godstone Hotel to be friendly, comfortable, and also very accessible from the M25. We can't comment on the restaurant, as it was closed the evening we stayed, but the Continental Breakfast provided was perfectly adequate. The room was clean, warm, and had TV, WiFi and Coffee and Tea-making. We were entirely satisfied with our stay, and have already booked to return next year in order to attend a family wedding. Having eaten many times at The Coach House over the years, this was the first time we had used the Hotel. As always the welcome was very warm and friendly, the rooms are a little dated but clean and the breakfast was great (there was a cooked full English breakfast available as an extra if we wished).Value for money on a Saturday night at £75 per room we thought very fair - if I have any criticism it is for the mattresses which were very soft and possibly need replacing.

My only criticism of one particular room (6) was that we could not get a constant flow of hot water to the shower, although there was plenty of hot water from the tap. The Continental breakfast was, again, as you would expect with prompt and courteous service from the waiter. When we booked the rooms 6 weeks earlier I spoke to Silvio who was very courteous and understanding. I explained that we were travelling to the wedding directly and wouldn't arrive at the hotel to book in until late evening and, as the main building would be closed, we wondered how we could gain access to the rooms. He reassured me by saying that in these circumstances the room would be left unlocked and the keys left inside. We were passing the hotel 4 days before the wedding and took the opportunity to go in and reaffirm the arrangement. The member of staff understood and took us to the rooms we were to use and explained the proceedure. Reassured, we arrived around midnight after the wedding and was astonished to find the rooms locked and a note on the main door asking us to ring the bell. The man answering was obviously unaware of the arrangement and told us (in no uncertain terms) his displeasure on having to stay up to give us our keys. Needless to say this put a dampener on the whole day. This is, no doubt, a hotel run by a few staff and a simple 'hand-over' book noting this 'arrangement' would have avoided this unpleasant encounter and shown the Godstone Hotel in a more favourable light.

lovely Godstone stop over - Rating 4/5

I booked despite poor reviews on TripAdvisor because it was convenient. I was delighted to find the poor reviews unnecessarily harsh. The room was comfortable and more than adequate. The bed was comfortable and the shower excellent. We didn't eat an evening meal but we will bring smarter clothes and partake of what is obviously haute cuisine next time. The breakfast was lovely withfriendly and efficient service. The restaurant, lounge and breakfast room are all beautifully appointed and full of character. I would definitely book again

We stayed here as it was convenient for our daughter having a baby. The hotel suited us very well. We were able to park right outside our door, which suited us very well as my husband is recovering from a stay in hospital. Would recommend the restaurant as the food was very good. This is not a modern hotel, but the staff are all very friendly and helpful, so many thanks to them. By the way our daughter had a lovely boy and both are doing well!

Myself and some old school friends got together at the Godstone Hotel for one night last weekend. We stayed over in a twin and a double room. The rooms were clean, sweet and very functional. We ate in the restaurant for dinner and breakfast and we had a wonderful time. The food was delicious, well presented and timely. The waiter service was fabulous, especially as we took ages to order because we were too busy talking and laughing! They really made it a fun and memorable evening for us. Thank you to the hotel staff all round for our lovely stay.

Very happy about my two night stay this week. Staff couldn't be more helpful, very comfy room, great powerful non electric shower (I hate electric showers lol)and lastnight I had their famous huge steak and kidney pudding (recommended by a local in one of the local pubs) which was delicious. Continental breakfast in-room was ample for me, supplied in a small 'cool bag'.Only thing I would change is a blackout blind on the door.

ALMOST MADE 4 STARS - Rating 3/5

Booked two rooms - one for us and one for friends - one room dark gloomy required updating the other looked to have had some refurbishment done- but the carpet on the step to the on-suite must be removed also - a King bed would also be a good move - we would pay a bit extra for that and there is room. Please remember the must for travellers - pillows - towels and sheets must be good and clean and white.Although white, there were a few stains on the pillows and some were of old condition with poor filling - however, amend the issues raised and you are almost there as effort was made to become 4 star had the pillows etc. been good (we are well travelled and picky) which is a recommendation from us.We couldn't stay for breakfast as we had early travel arrangements but staff offered us alternative (breakfast tray)had we wished to take up the offer so a thank you for hospitality effort. A bit more effort of the above and you will be a competitor for many other hotels.

The food was superb. Wide choice and delicious. Well presented. Room was a bit disappointing in that the bed was very small. We thought we had booked a "double room"and been given a discount, but in fact we had been given no discount and just went into a single annexe room. The bed was a small double bed so we managed but as we were both on the large size, this was a bit of an inconvenience. Would have preferred to not be given a discount and paid the full price. I thought a discount meant a discount on a double room. However, the shower room was fantastic and the whole place was clean. Lovely gardens and nice location so we will certainly go back, but having checked out first if we were going to be expected to squash into a single room accommodation or be given afull size bed!

We have stayed at the Godstone Hotel quite often over the last few years while dealiong with our ancient parents, who lived in Caterham. The rooms are not huge but are very comfortable and the breakfasts are excellent. The really defining feature of the place is, however, how kind and helpful everyone is. They have gone way beyond what one could reasonably expect in providing help and support on a number of occasions - brilliant. If we find ourselves in the Godstone area in the future we will be staying at the Godstone Hotel.

Once again spot on service &food, first time in room 10 just as good as 6 &11 which have always been our preference, After treating our friends to lunch last month, they were so impressed that they have been twice themselves since. Well done Corinne, Silvio &the team. Look forward to seeing you again soon.

On arrival at the Godstone Hotel I was meeted by a very friendly and accomodating owner who was happy to cater for my 3 month stay at the hotel. This stretched to providing me with food for breakfast, each night forthe following morning, as I leave the hotel each day for work before breakfast is served. The room meetsall requirements and is secure.

An exploratory visit - Rating 3/5

We have booked our Golden Wedding party here for definite since our stay. The main reason for our choice is the excellent restaurant and food served here, which we had sampled before. It certainly lived up to our expectations and the service would be difficult to better. The hotel itself is faded, and needs work doing;we were very comfortable, the bedroom was adequate, but small, particularly the bathroom area. The facilities are ageing and the surrounds need a good tidy uo - weeds in the courtyard, the doorrs and paintwork need attention, but for a one night stay it will suffice.

We were disappointed with our room which was rather small. The bath did not have a non-slip base nor was there a mat to stand on in the bath when showering. A hand rail on the wall would have helped. We have stayed several times at this lovely little Hotel and it is really good the restaurant and the staff and the food are all excellent - however this time we were not very happy with the room that was allocated to us it was next to what I think was the 'boiler room' so our room was not very quiet as I was kept awake most of the night with the noises coming from the machinery or whatever it is that keeps turning on or off- so it did spoil what was otherwise a lovely evening in the restaurant with friends - so next time will request we are not given that room or we will have to look for somewhere else to stay

New years Eve - Rating 3/5

We stayed here for one night on New Years Eve as we were attending a party in the area. The rooms are small chalet rooms at the rear of the restaurant. The room was small, and was desperate for refurbishment. The bed was clean and comfortable. The en-suite shower-room was clean, modern and had a good shower with lots of hot water. The staff were very friendly. Because of our very late night we didn't go to breakfast on New Years morning. I t was good value for money for what we paid.

A warm welcome was followed by excellent service. Two of us ate in and were very very satisfied with the meal and attention we received. The best recommendation is that we will stay again as a matter of choice. Well done to the team.

I have recently moved to live in Godstone, but have no spare room for friends &family to stay when they come to visit, so I booked my mum in for 2 nights at the Hotel, and it was the perfect solution.Lovely accommodation, lovely food (as we ate dinner at The Coach House) and within walking distance of all village amenities, so she didn't have to wait for me to show up every morning as she was already out and about. I will definitely use the hotel again whenever friends and family come to visit and would recommend it.

Whenever anyone turns on a hot water tap in the hotel an electric pump can be heard inside room 6.This is more than just annoying to someone wanting to sleep.Otherwise the room was very clean which was appreciated and staff appeared friendly.

I regularly stay here on business and highly recommend this hotel. Rooms are of a good spec and very quiet (unlike most budget chains!!) You can eat at the hotel restaurant itself or you can choose from a couple of pubs in the village. V good value and good location for Gatwick and London-2 mins from M25.

Expensive and poor value - Rating 1/5

Was hiking the North Downs Way with a friend. Initially phoned up and was told it was bed and breakfast accomodation and it was very close to the North Downs Way- it is not! its a couple of miles away. When I got there was put in a tiny pokey annex accomodation with my collegue (rm 7). One chair in the room, tiny duvets so when you move at night they fall off on the floor. Very small room. At least there was breakfast to look forward too. Alas next morning I find it was room only an my full cooked english breakfast is another £7.50 on top of my room bill. So £82.50 in all very poor value-felt ripped off and will not be returning.

Hello All,Having now stayed at your hotel for a number of years we have seen the bathrooms updated to a very high standard, the rooms are always clean and tidy and if you want anything you are only to ask, as i did when my wife wanted more bottled water and it was in the room in under a min. Would like to maybe see the bedroom decor updated but all in all very good value for money. Thanks again and we will be back soon.Ian &Lisa Domala

OK for an overnight stay - Rating 3/5

Stayed here a couple of years before this visit, as it's very convenient for visiting relatives in Godstone. The staff are very courteous and friendly, but the accommodation is pretty basic and the rooms are badly in need of refurbishment. Certainly, nothing has been done in the past two years to upgrade it.That said, the price, for the area and proximity to M25 and Gatwick is quite reasonable.I'm told the food is good too, but we didn't have occasion to sample it.

Don't quite think of us as 'mature' !!! - Rating 4/5

I have now stayed here on two occasions, and really enjoy it. It is easy enough to leave the car at Red Hill &spend the day in London, but is peaceful ,relaxing, and quiet to sleep in !. The restaurant is lovely, and a plate of devilled crab with a glass of wine in the lounge before dinner is my recommendation !! Godstone is a sweet little village, and there are other tasty options for dining nearby when staying at the Hotel. The rooms are clean, probably due for a refurb.,the decor is dated &the wallpaper peeling, but the showers are hot.All in all a great place to stay, as a couple, or, as I did last year, with my teenaged son.I would recommend it to anyone.

Short visit - Rating 4/5

Reception was welcoming and efficient. We stayed one night in a twin room situated in a converted outbuilding. The weather was fine so the short uncovered distance between the room and the main reception was not a problem. The room was adequately heated, and the usual facilities were present, clean and functioning. The shower worked easily and provided plenty of hot water. The decor in parts looked a little tired and would benefit from some small remedial attention. In the evening we were joined by other family members and enjoyed a pleasant dinner. The set menu was one of the better I have encountered recently and certainly did not disappoint. One major indicator for me of any eating establishment is the quality of the house wine served. In this case an excellent dry white wine. On the basis of this experience, should I visit again I would be seriously tempted to try the "a la carte"menu. On balance the restaurant lifts my rating to a 4/5
