Anniversary stay - Rating 5/5

Stayed just one night, having stayed before and enjoyed our stay. This stay didn't dissapoint either. The new owners are very friendly and welcoming with a professional but easy going style. One major change is a superb cooked breakfast included in the price. It makes a stay in this pretty Surrey village extremely good value.

Many thanks for your positive review, hope to see again soon. Regards John and Tracey.

A Lovely Friendly Hotel - Rating 4/5

I really enjoyed my short stay at the Godstone. The bed was comfortable and the shower (over the bath) was excellent. I had my own front door off the courtyard/carpark overlooking countryside and it was very quiet. I managed to leak ink all over the sheet, tried to wash it out and made it worse and at 10pm didn’t have a sheet to sleep under. The owner was so good about it, said not to worry and gave me a clean sheet...can’t ask for more than that. If it were my room I’d try and lighten it up a bit. The lace curtains are quite thick and it’s a shame you can’t see out otherwise a 5*

Four arriving late from Gatwick - Rating 4/5

We love this hotel but it has a different name on the board outside and late at night in the dark we couldn't find it. Guests should be warned to look out for The Coach House on the board. we had to ask for help from passers-by. It is an attractivehomely place with a spacious car park but not likely to appeal to those who want modern buildings.

My husband and I stayed at The Godstone Hotel last weekend with a couple of friends as we were attending at party in Godstone. We found this to be good basic accommodation for a 2 star hotel. The rooms are more set up like a very small cottage with separate doors to the external part of the building.Whilst they may be a little dated, the beds had lovely clean linen, plenty of wardrobe and drawer space and a clean bathroom. The shower was a little "hit and miss"in terms of hot water but it was functional. In terms of the continental breakfast it was sufficient with cereal, yogurt, fruit, croissants and toast.I fully appreciate that people have various expectations but for £75.00 for a double room in this area is value for money. Many of the reviews on Tripadvisor are quite poor which is a little unfair, "you get what you pay for".

Comfortable but a little quirky - Rating 4/5

This is a comfortable and reasonably priced hotel. Our room (room 12) had an awkward step up into the bathroom and the decor was rather dark. Nevertheless, a comfortable and quiet couple of nights. Service in the dining room was excellent and professional. Food on the plate did not quite live up to its price and menu description. As a hotel rating I would give it two stars but my experience was better than that

Booked for a wedding being held in Godstone. Excellent value for many, staying in a unique chalet style room which was comfortable and value for money @ £75 per room per night including breakfast. The only negative, is that the breakfast is just continental, with no hot food option. Did ask if we could pay extra, but not an option...was needed after a long wedding!!Overall, good hotel and value for money.

Superb restaurant with value bedrooms & parking - Rating 5/5

The Coach-House is an excellent restaurant. We enjoyed the delicious seafood Godstone - an elegantly presented slightly spicy dish with a generous portion of large prawns ans scallops worthy of an Michelin starred kitchen but in cosy surroundings and reasonably priced. What a luxury to be able to park easily and stay over in a comfortable room and enjoy fresh croissants in the morning. All of this cost half the price of my usual basic hotel stay in london with not even a glass of water included! What a gem thank you

As one of the only places you can stay in and around Godstone, we weren't spoiled for choice. However, we found the Godstone Hotel to be friendly, comfortable, and also very accessible from the M25. We can't comment on the restaurant, as it was closed the evening we stayed, but the Continental Breakfast provided was perfectly adequate. The room was clean, warm, and had TV, WiFi and Coffee and Tea-making. We were entirely satisfied with our stay, and have already booked to return next year in order to attend a family wedding. Having eaten many times at The Coach House over the years, this was the first time we had used the Hotel. As always the welcome was very warm and friendly, the rooms are a little dated but clean and the breakfast was great (there was a cooked full English breakfast available as an extra if we wished).Value for money on a Saturday night at £75 per room we thought very fair - if I have any criticism it is for the mattresses which were very soft and possibly need replacing.

Superb food, basic accomodation - Rating 4/5

As always, the food served at this restaurant is simply fabulous - the 'Monkey Gland Steak' is to die for - and the service from only two front of house staff when it was packed to the rafters on the Wednesday evening we stayed was hard to fault. The only problem was that the small room we shared only had a small fanlight for ventilation - a pain on a stuffy night -but at the low price charged it seemed unreasonable to complain!

The room was clean and comfortable with some nice touches. The price was the best in the area , which is surprising as it is a family run business. Lovely continental breakfast in the price and plenty of it!The best bit was the restaurant though. The food was top class, service faultless and beautiful surroundings. I cannot recommend The Godstone hotel highly enough. Thank you for my stay!

Although I have put in travelling as singlr male, I was in fact travelling with my Father. He was 90 yrs old during our stay. The staff at Godstone Hotel were polite, friendly and attentive. They gave the impression that nothing would be too much trouble if I asked. The rooms were clean, warm and well provided. Breakfast was excellent, a cold continental buffet of ham, cheese and warmed rolls suited me, whereas, my father preferred cereals. An 'English' fry- up was available on request. The restaurant menu was amazing, ranging from the continent to basic English fayre. Delicious. All in all a very pleasing stay. Thank you Godstone Hotel.

Comfortable but lacking communication between staff - Rating 3/5

We were a couple plus my elderly mother who took two rooms for one night following a family wedding from a venue 5 miles away. The rooms are accessed from outside, each with their own front door. I will start by saying the rooms were clean and comfortable with all the ameneties you would expect. My only criticism of one particular room (6) was that we could not get a constant flow of hot water to the shower, although there was plenty of hot water from the tap. The Continental breakfast was, again, as you would expect with prompt and courteous service from the waiter. When we booked the rooms 6 weeks earlier I spoke to Silvio who was very courteous and understanding. I explained that we were travelling to the wedding directly and wouldn't arrive at the hotel to book in until late evening and, as the main building would be closed, we wondered how we could gain access to the rooms. He reassured me by saying that in these circumstances the room would be left unlocked and the keys left inside. We were passing the hotel 4 days before the wedding and took the opportunity to go in and reaffirm the arrangement. The member of staff understood and took us to the rooms we were to use and explained the proceedure. Reassured, we arrived around midnight after the wedding and was astonished to find the rooms locked and a note on the main door asking us to ring the bell. The man answering was obviously unaware of the arrangement and told us (in no uncertain terms) his displeasure on having to stay up to give us our keys. Needless to say this put a dampener on the whole day. This is, no doubt, a hotel run by a few staff and a simple 'hand-over' book noting this 'arrangement' would have avoided this unpleasant encounter and shown the Godstone Hotel in a more favourable light.

lovely Godstone stop over - Rating 4/5

I booked despite poor reviews on TripAdvisor because it was convenient. I was delighted to find the poor reviews unnecessarily harsh. The room was comfortable and more than adequate. The bed was comfortable and the shower excellent. We didn't eat an evening meal but we will bring smarter clothes and partake of what is obviously haute cuisine next time. The breakfast was lovely withfriendly and efficient service. The restaurant, lounge and breakfast room are all beautifully appointed and full of character. I would definitely book again

ALMOST MADE 4 STARS - Rating 3/5

Booked two rooms - one for us and one for friends - one room dark gloomy required updating the other looked to have had some refurbishment done- but the carpet on the step to the on-suite must be removed also - a King bed would also be a good move - we would pay a bit extra for that and there is room. Please remember the must for travellers - pillows - towels and sheets must be good and clean and white.Although white, there were a few stains on the pillows and some were of old condition with poor filling - however, amend the issues raised and you are almost there as effort was made to become 4 star had the pillows etc. been good (we are well travelled and picky) which is a recommendation from us.We couldn't stay for breakfast as we had early travel arrangements but staff offered us alternative (breakfast tray)had we wished to take up the offer so a thank you for hospitality effort. A bit more effort of the above and you will be a competitor for many other hotels.

The food was superb. Wide choice and delicious. Well presented. Room was a bit disappointing in that the bed was very small. We thought we had booked a "double room"and been given a discount, but in fact we had been given no discount and just went into a single annexe room. The bed was a small double bed so we managed but as we were both on the large size, this was a bit of an inconvenience. Would have preferred to not be given a discount and paid the full price. I thought a discount meant a discount on a double room. However, the shower room was fantastic and the whole place was clean. Lovely gardens and nice location so we will certainly go back, but having checked out first if we were going to be expected to squash into a single room accommodation or be given afull size bed!

Short stay. - Rating 4/5

The Coach House provided us with comfortable , clean and well appointed accommodation for our short stay, having a few nice complimentary touches.Being situated at the rear of the property the room provided a quiet location away from the main road with the benefit of independent access with our own outer door - no corridors! The proprietors were very pleasant and helpful. The continental breakfast proved very satisfying with a good range of food available and plenty of it. Many thanks, hope to visit again.

The rooms are clean and modern, and well-organised and easier to get into than the local pub we stayed in. Price was a bit steep considering we only got a continental breakfast (which I always think is a cop out so the hotel doesn't have to cook!) but it was fine. I would recommend it.

My partner and I were in Godstone to attend a wedding nearby. The Godstone hotel was a very warm and friendly hotel. The room was comfortable and nicely decorated. It was a very pretty scene at the hotel and the staff were extremely helpful. The only problem is getting to and from the hotel via taxis can be a bit difficult. We have stayed at the Godstone Hotel quite often over the last few years while dealiong with our ancient parents, who lived in Caterham. The rooms are not huge but are very comfortable and the breakfasts are excellent. The really defining feature of the place is, however, how kind and helpful everyone is. They have gone way beyond what one could reasonably expect in providing help and support on a number of occasions - brilliant. If we find ourselves in the Godstone area in the future we will be staying at the Godstone Hotel.

An exploratory visit - Rating 3/5

We have booked our Golden Wedding party here for definite since our stay. The main reason for our choice is the excellent restaurant and food served here, which we had sampled before. It certainly lived up to our expectations and the service would be difficult to better. The hotel itself is faded, and needs work doing;we were very comfortable, the bedroom was adequate, but small, particularly the bathroom area. The facilities are ageing and the surrounds need a good tidy uo - weeds in the courtyard, the doorrs and paintwork need attention, but for a one night stay it will suffice.

We have stayed several times at this lovely little Hotel and it is really good the restaurant and the staff and the food are all excellent - however this time we were not very happy with the room that was allocated to us it was next to what I think was the 'boiler room' so our room was not very quiet as I was kept awake most of the night with the noises coming from the machinery or whatever it is that keeps turning on or off- so it did spoil what was otherwise a lovely evening in the restaurant with friends - so next time will request we are not given that room or we will have to look for somewhere else to stay

very pleasant - Rating 4/5

A very pleasant stay for my night in Godstone,if walking be aware that the station is quite a distance away in South Godstone. In fact walking is not recommended due to very busy A22 road. Hotel is good the food smelt delicious but I didn't eat in due to a function else where, full English breakfast was extra which was shame but worth the money. A bit noisy as the rooms are off the court yard but I would stay here again

Rooms rather 'tired' but clean.Continental breakfast included in costs, which could have more variety - if you require English breakfast an additional £7.50 per person is required - quite high!

attention to our booking - Rating 3/5

Firstly , I got my booking wrong. I askedfor double rather than twin beds. They sorted this with a phone call;they also sensitively put our daughter in a room next to ours. We had to check in early to change for a wedding - no trouble, the rooms were ready. Lastly, we asked for fresh milk, andlate night biscuits afterthe wedding - no trouble. Clean, fresh bedlinen and bathrooms, a little noise from outside until 11.00 pm.Decent continental breakfast, very helpful staff.

Little dissapointed as the picture on the webpage made the experience look better than it was for the price, would have expected to have an English breakfast for the price of £75......Hairdryer was not working, had to be given a replcement fuse, Cold water was extremely slow pressure & kettle switch had to be held down to make it boil for making tea!!!

We felt that the accommodation was very dated and wasn't entirely clean.Although Godstone is a very nice area, I think your charges were quite high which didn't include a cooked breakfast. In your communications, it would be nice to see a name.Unfortunately, we shall not be recommending it to our friends. However, your restaurant did look busy and perhaps if we are ever in the area again we can sample your menu. Chose to stay at the Godstone Hotel even though the person we were visiting lives in Lingfield. Have stopped in the Godstone before and knew what to expect. Friendly staff all too willing to help. Had the Steak and Kidney pudding, it would have seved 2 or 3 people but I tried my best. Only complaint would be about the TV reception, but dodnt have too much time to watch it, although, it would have been nice to watch news in morning.

2 Night Stay - Rating 1/5

Lovely Restaurant, lovely food, accommodation fair but the noise was totally unacceptable at being kept awake ALL night due to some type of electrical device switching on and off all through the night. Our daughter was getting married the day after, so a good night's sleep was essential, which obviously didn't happen especially staying for 2 nights!!!! Unfortunately we would not recommend your hotel to anybody.

Very clean and efficient. Have been on several occasions both to stay and for meals.Sorry to see how very tired and run down the iinterior has become. Needs a complete makeover both in terms of general decorating and new carpeting(especially on stairs) without changing the feel of ambience that exists. Bedding needs updating, the net attached to the door of the bedroom looks like somethng Granny use to have and is off colour and the rug on the floor needs a good clean. Bathroom spotless. Bed flies across the floor even when you just get into it!

The Coach house restaurant leaves you full, happy and most of all welcomed, prices are reasonable and the staff are so good, nothing is too much for them. I would recommend 100% a stay here with a booking for the restaurant. Only bad point for the hotel management, Needs re-decorating the rooms, bit shabby and been the same for the last 5 or so years!. We stayed here for one night on New Years Eve as we were attending a party in the area. The rooms are small chalet rooms at the rear of the restaurant. The room was small, and was desperate for refurbishment. The bed was clean and comfortable. The en-suite shower-room was clean, modern and had a good shower with lots of hot water. The staff were very friendly. Because of our very late night we didn't go to breakfast on New Years morning. I t was good value for money for what we paid.

I will definitely use the hotel again whenever friends and family come to visit and would recommend it.

Expensive and poor value - Rating 1/5

Was hiking the North Downs Way with a friend. Initially phoned up and was told it was bed and breakfast accomodation and it was very close to the North Downs Way- it is not! its a couple of miles away. When I got there was put in a tiny pokey annex accomodation with my collegue (rm 7). One chair in the room, tiny duvets so when you move at night they fall off on the floor. Very small room. At least there was breakfast to look forward too. Alas next morning I find it was room only an my full cooked english breakfast is another £7.50 on top of my room bill. So £82.50 in all very poor value-felt ripped off and will not be returning.

The staff are very courteous and friendly, but the accommodation is pretty basic and the rooms are badly in need of refurbishment. I have now stayed here on two occasions, and really enjoy it. It is easy enough to leave the car at Red Hill & spend the day in London, but is peaceful ,relaxing, and quiet to sleep in !. The restaurant is lovely, and a plate of devilled crab with a glass of wine in the lounge before dinner is my recommendation !! Godstone is a sweet little village, and there are other tasty options for dining nearby when staying at the Hotel. The rooms are clean, probably due for a refurb.,the decor is dated & the wallpaper peeling, but the showers are hot.All in all a great place to stay, as a couple, or, as I did last year, with my teenaged son.I would recommend it to anyone.

Short visit - Rating 4/5

Reception was welcoming and efficient. We stayed one night in a twin room situated in a converted outbuilding. The weather was fine so the short uncovered distance between the room and the main reception was not a problem. The room was adequately heated, and the usual facilities were present, clean and functioning. The shower worked easily and provided plenty of hot water. The decor in parts looked a little tired and would benefit from some small remedial attention. In the evening we were joined by other family members and enjoyed a pleasant dinner. The set menu was one of the better I have encountered recently and certainly did not disappoint. One major indicator for me of any eating establishment is the quality of the house wine served. In this case an excellent dry white wine. On the basis of this experience, should I visit again I would be seriously tempted to try the "a la carte"menu. On balance the restaurant lifts my rating to a 4/5
